TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been crafting reader's theater for Scholastic classroom magazines such as Scope and Storyworks since 1998, and I've authored three books on education through Scholastic. I've developed a reputation for creating compelling read aloud plays based on American History, Civil Rights, and classic short stories. Visit ReadAloudPlays.com for more info on my plays, especially my African American history RT. I also earned my National Board Certification in 2004. When not teaching the middle grades in southern Oregon, which I've done since 1993, I spend my time playing basketball, backpacking, and pestering kids. Contact me at lewis@jeffnet.org or visit one of my websites, MackLewis.com, ReadAloudPlays.com, or my public-school site, The Daily Platypus. Thanks!

MY TEACHING STYLE

Visit my school website, The Daily Platypus, to see what kind of wild stuff is going on in my classroom. The materials I create are designed to give my kids the most academically rewarding and personally enjoyable school experience possible. This is reflected in both our EZSubPlans and my Read Aloud Plays. Most of my plays were previously published in Scholastic classroom magazines such as Storyworks, Scope, and Scholastic News. They're generally aimed at grades 4 through 6, but many can be used with third graders who are up for a challenge. Others, such as "Stolen Childhoods", "Cyclops", and "Juneteenth," are quite suitable for older students such as 7th or even 8th graders. Be sure to download the previews if you're unsure. Thanks!
