What educators are saying

This was a unique way for the students to look at the text in a different way. They always enjoy doing a reader's theatre version of stories too.
I used this, along with a video animation of Tell Tale Heart, to help my students understand the story before writing a modern version of the story.

Description

Originally published in the October 2008 issue of Scholastic's Storyworks magazine (and later reprinted in Scope, Scholastic News, and my book, Read Aloud Plays: Classic Short Stories), this newly-revised script is true to the original text but is cleverly structured to be more appropriate for middle grade and young adult audiences. It includes the original text, a comprehension worksheet, a "mock trial" activity, as well as teacher notes and a key--fourteen pages in all. Parts for 9 students, suitable for 5th through 9th grade (and adaptable for 4th and 10th), and appropriate for reader's theater, podcast, or a full stage production. (Note, this product used to contain just the original text and mock trial activity, so this is a significant reboot. Keep that in mind when reading the reviews). Be sure also to see my modernized version, Penelope Ann Poe's Amazing Cell Phone, for a kick-in-the-pants compare and contrast activity. Thanks!
