Summary Reading Log to support the Step Up to Writing Technique
This reading log is designed to support summary writing using four steps demonstrated in the Step Up to Writing program.
Step One: In the first box students are to identify the subject they are summarizing.
Step Two: In the second box students should select a T.E.D. verb. The T.E.D. verbs are tells, explains, or describes.
Step Three: In the third box students finish their thought about the book or chapter they read.

My class uses this in their interactive notebooks. We get a new chart for every lengthy piece of literature that we cover. This really helps students explictly see how to make inferences.
