Spanish major turned TESOL teacher, I have been working in the TESOL field for 4 years. Before that and during this time, I have also volunteered and interned in the field. My experience expands over K-12 and adult education.
I believe in making connections with students and finding what interests them. As well as the important skills they need to learn and prefect in order to preform successfully in an English language centered society.
Awesome teacher moment - seeing a newcomer form a complete sentence on their own. I had a student who asked to go to the bathroom (of course ;) and I was so shocked he used a full, perfect sentence! Even his classmates noticed and were all very proud. Another is when you realize you are the safe place for students. They come to you between classes and see your classroom as a place to reset. A place they enjoy and are engaged while learning, as well as sharing about their cultures and experiences.
Through college I volunteered at grade schools, and interned in an adult TESOL program. I was a paraprofessional for a year after graduation, then started teaching. I am currently in my 3rd year of teaching grades 5-12. I have worked with all age levels and proficiency levels. From newcomers, to intermediate, to advanced English Learners.
Although my experience focuses on ELL - ESL - EFL students, the materials listed here can help a variety of learners when it comes to English skills.
