TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hello! I currently teach Advanced Composition for college prep and and honors-level seniors at my high school. This is my 26th consecutive year as a public school teacher, but I have also taught in private settings for churches and one-on-one tutoring in my area. I've written curricula from scratch in a number of settings including the current 12th grade English curriculum used at my school in order to make sure we meet Georgia's version of the national Common Core Standards.

MY TEACHING STYLE

The high school English classroom should be one that emphasizes all modes of communication. Regardless of which path my seniors choose to take post graduation, there must be something of value that they can pull from the experiences we've shared in our classroom. It is my hope that they leave high school as much better speakers, listeners, readers, writers, collaborators, researchers, problem solvers, and thinkers! Each of these aspects of communication works together to shape how we perceive ourselves and also how others perceive us.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

The honors that matter to me are the e-mails, letters, visits, and hugs I receive from students. It is particularly heartfelt when former parents and students come back just to thank me. I was also selected by my district to work at the state level in order to rewrite GA's state standards for ELA. I was a member of the phase one team who worked frequently throughout May and June of 2023. The updated standards will officially roll out in 2025.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have loved learning all of my life and will always strive to grow. I earned a B.A. in English from Rollins College. I then earned a Master's in English Education and a Specialist Degree in Curriculum from Piedmont.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have a beautiful daughter who is now a college senior. I married my best friend last summer, so I've recently changed my store's name. I am at a terrific place in my life with a loving family and a desire to contribute to this community of educators. :)
