I have taught for 6 years at a three different Title 1 schools. I work only a few miles from the Mexico border and therefore have an over 85% English Learner class. During my time teaching I have begun numerous programs such as Battle of the Books, Debate, Poetry Recitation, etc. I have worked at schools that place a high focus on PLC and collaboration and have been lucky to work with some of the best teachers I know. Additionally, I have lived in both Ecuador and Mexico and have had multiple opportunities to learn and speak the language and become immersed in the culture.
I believe in a collaborative, 21st century learning style while still maintaining the balance of good, solid literacy and writing instruction. I believe that students will prosper when given a positive learning environment that is safe for them to fail, learn from their mistakes, and be successful in. I also believe that students need to learn at differentiated levels in order to meet grade level expectations or above. I teach in a Reader's and Writer's Workshop model and I believe highly in small group learning at their instructional level because I have seen this work. Particularly when students are not reading at grade level. I always give 110% at everything I do and I hope my time at TPT will reflect that.
