In my twenty-five years as an educator, I’ve had the privilege of teaching children from a variety of communities and backgrounds. I have taught in low-income neighborhoods, in rural and urban communities, on a military base, at an open enrollment magnet school and at an online public elementary school. One thing I can say for certain is that regardless of background, socio-economic status or circumstance, all children have the potential to succeed in school. When given a safe, positive, engaging classroom environment, children will enjoy school and become life-long learners.
I see my role as a facilitator of learning in which each student plays an active part. My classroom is literature-based, hands-on, cooperative, and what I like to call "thematically cross-curricular." It is my job to foster inquisitiveness and to impart self confidence upon every child in my classroom!
