I am a current 12th year teacher who has enjoyed the slow burn of building my own library of resources and databases of materials that have worked well for my students and me. I tell my kids every day, "I teach so I can work with teenagers every day, I could never work full time with adults." This is almost entirely true, but I DO enjoy sharing the "behind the scenes" resources I've accumulated over the years. As a neurodivergent, people pleasing, daughter of a computer programmer, I THRIVE on a good spreadsheet. I have taught myself hot to make them work for music programs, coaching staff, staff development coordinators, finance secretaries, and senior teacher chairs.
Face to face with the kids, I'm a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of teacher. I pride myself on being able to read my students pretty well, and I do well in the rehearsal setting switching gears regularly to match their energy, interests, and strenghts. Behind the scenes, I find myself compensating for that by being overboard on book keeping. It brings me a lot of peace and calm to know that the numbers will always be at my fingertips and WILL be correct (and will look nice and be easy to read too!).
I have been lead high school choral director for my county for many years, helped write our county's curriculum plans during COVID, and am pursuing National Boards in the coming years. I'm a teacher's teacher, but really feel my place is in the classroom with teens! I have many years of consecutive multiple ensemble superior ratings with my choirs, and I have directed All County choirs in my state as well.
