Project-Based Learning: Egyptian Place Value & Fractions
Looking for some new PBL? I wanted a snazzy way to engage my fifth graders in a place value review AND teach the new fraction concepts we were studying. That's why this project was created!
This literacy, math, art, and problem-solving project engages students in the following:
1. Place value review to the millions place, using Egyptian hieroglyphs, using expanded, standard, and written form.
2. Reading the history of hieroglyphs, cartouches, fraction systems, and an Egyptian myth.

Can You Cash This? (Personal financial literacy 6 week unit)
This six weeks unit was created to deal with TEKS objective 4(10),
Personal Financial Literacy. I wanted the students to have to actually
write a check, make deposits, but not be able to do so until a
challenging word problem or bar graph had been answered. There are
5 lessons per week. In my classroom, I used the guided practice and
independent practice to teach my students how to handle the word
problems, writing the checks, making the deposits or checkbook

Integers & Place Value - Complete Unit of Work
In this unit, students will learn fundamental skills for working with whole numbers. They will order positive and negative numbers on a number line, revisit calculation methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and extend these methods to working with negative numbers.
