Gas Laws Intro Lab 16 stations or chemistry demos

Created by
ChemKate
Thess ultimate Gas Laws 16 Lab Stations allows students to investigate direct and inverse properties of gases: pressure, volume, moles, and temperature. The guided student handout is editable and these gas laws lab activities incorporate particulate-level movement of gases (bead stations) as well as intentional questioning that leads students to link inverse or direct relationships of gas behaviors in an engaging, memorable way. Give your students experiences of how gases impact and are impacted

Earth Layers Model: Decoding Compositional and Mechanical/Structural layers

Students will complete a colored model of earths layers that will clarify the main differences of compositional and mechanical layers both visually as well as conceptually. They will also be able to identify trends of temperature, gravity, pressure, and density. This is a great activity that will allow students to better comprehend the dynamics of plate tectonics. This could also serve as a earth science practical type of assessment.

Weather Map Construction: Isotherms, Isobars, High and Low Pressure.

In this lab, students plot several weather maps based on data in the USA. These are an isotherm map, isobar map, and a map showing wind direction, precipitation areas, and weather fronts. I used to have them combine all these maps to create a synoptic weather map, but that got to be a bit too much and a little messy. You sure can take one of the blank maps in this lab and have them do that if you wish!!There are many vocabulary terms to define along with gradient questions and questions about th

The epicenter of an earthquake can be found using the difference between the arrival of the Primary and Secondary waves. Using this resource students find the arrival times of P-waves and S-waves using a seismogram. The distance to the earthquake epicenter is then determined using the "Earthquake P-Wave and S-Wave Travel Time" graph. A circle is drawn for each city and students locate where the epicenter is by seeing where the circles converge.Three different earthquake locations are included
