I consider the early high school years as a time of transition. Prior to high school the focus in Language Arts classes has been understanding language. The exciting thing about high school instruction is that the focus should shift from understanding language to using language effectively. From its origins, language can be considered the most powerful force available to man. Everything starts and moves forward with effective communication and understanding. Your students' future success will very much involve their ability to use language effectively. I attempt to design each lesson plan and unit with this in mind.
