I spent two years teaching at a charter school in Western Michigan. The first year I taught in a state-fundred early readiness program and the following year, I taught first grade. After the year in first grade, my husband and I relocated to Southeast Alaska. My first year here, I taught preschool in a collaborative program between the school district and Head Start. Since then I have been teaching first grade. I truly enjoy all those little and eager learners! ** This year I'm teaching a K/1 Multiage!!**
I try my hardest to implement Conscious Discipline in my classroom. I use a lot of CD language, especially when dealing with behavior. We work hard on social skills and character strengths as well as academics. For many of my kiddos, it is difficult for them to get in the routine of school and follow all of the expectations. I try to use hands-on games as much as possible and I am in love with the interactive notebooks that we have been using this year. My students also participate in student-led conferences. I try to teach them how to be accountable for themselves and really learn what effort, grit, self-control, fairness and kindness are all about!
Undergraduate Degree- Magna Cum Laude Graduate Degree-Summa Cum Laude
I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Education in 2008. Since then, I have completed my Masters of Reading and Literacy degree through Benedictine University.
The 2016-2017 school year will be my ninth year teaching. I have been married to a fabulous man for 8 years. I have a seven year old yellow Lab and an extremely active preschooler. Life is full and I wouldn't have it any other way!
