I have been teaching high school mathematics for six years in Louisiana. Thus far, I've taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Algebra 2 Advanced, ACT Prep, and AP Statistics.
I strongly believe that you do NOT have to be an aggressive, yelling jerk to earn the respect and obedience of your students. Before beginning my first year of teaching, I was frequently told that I was too nice and looked too young to be a successful high school teacher. Several people told me I'd have to smile less, even veteran teachers! I believe the success of my students at the regular, advanced, and AP level proved those opinions false. I stayed true to myself, keeping my positive, enthusiastic personality at the forefront of my teaching style, and I will continue to do so.
