I substitute taught PK-12 and special education for a year, then moved into a 5-6th grade ELA/science role where I stayed for two years. This year, I went back to substitute teaching and am in middle school now! I haven't had a "normal" year (full year in person with the same group of kiddos) since I started teaching, but what's normal anyway?
It must be the coach in me, but I'm a huge proponent of collaboration, teamwork, and giving students as many opportunities to practice what we're learning in creative and hands-on ways. Feel free to check out my Instagram (@thebackupteacher) to see the projects we're working on and some of the things we're doing in the classroom!
Bachelor's Degree - honors, 3.76 GPA // Master's Degree (Curriculum & Instruction) - 4.0 GPA
I graduated from undergrad in April 2018 with dual degrees in Elementary Education, Bible/Theology, and an ESOL endorsement! I love learning so much that I decided to go back to school in April 2020 to work toward my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a reading endorsement - I graduated in June 2022 and am looking to use my master's degree to become a curriculum developer!
When I’m not spending my time teaching or being a student, I coach a lot of high school volleyball (and play in adult leagues/drop in nights myself) and middle school track and field! My athletes are amazing and it’s been such a fun journey!
