I have been a teacher leader in science and STEM educator, as well as instructional coach across all content areas for nearly 16 years. I am very passionate about bringing real world experiences to students, building community partnerships and service learning.
Having had my first career as a field zoologist, I knew my approach to science needed to be real world which will be evident in my products. I love to provide students with hands-on inquiry based learning. I am definitely not a traditional teacher and rarely have students sit and take notes and lecture from PowerPoint's. Almost everyday students are doing the learning through a wide range of activities. While I have many systems and structure in place, science is not routine--it is all about discovery and problem solving. So I teach through this lens. Students are always at the center of the learning and I help guide and facilitate this process using differentiated instruction, choice, design thinking, and inquiry.
