Own a preschool / tutoring center since 2005. Instructor to K - 12 in self-reliance skills off and on since the late 90's through the present. Completed a Bachelor of Arts in Special Ed. PreK-12th and Elementary Ed. K-8th along with my student teaching in Special Education (6th-8th) and Elementary (2nd) in 2013. A Washington state certified teacher. Substitute Teacher for K-12th in local school districts and completed my Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction in December 2016. One year (2017-18) as a 5th grade teacher in a neighboring school district. Took a year off for health issues. Now, (2021-present) I am a Clinical Supervisor for student teachers while they earn their teaching certification in Washington State. A conference presenter for a great Classroom Management style that has students take responsibility for their own actions. Plus, finally (Spring 2022) getting back into the schools to teach the self-reliance skills again after COVID took me out of the classroom for 2 years. I became the coordinator of the program in Aug. 2022 and had four instructors that taught with me until I left in Jan. 2024. In the past, was a volunteer with Camp Fire USA for 14 years working with youth and adults; a student teaching with 2nd and 3rd grades teachers in mid-90's; workshop presenter for adults that work with young children through NAEYC; and on the PTA / PTSA while my own children were in school. Overall, I have been working with children since 1986.
Since every student is a unique person, I treat them that way as I work to help them reach their maximum potential in learning. I do this by teaching the students, not the subjects in my classroom. I challenge each student to do their best but, still be able to succeed. Their learning goes beyond just being literate; students need to develop their communication skills and critical thinking while fostering their creativity and curiosity about learning. I help them to achieve this along with their personal goals for learning and self-regulating their behavior.
