I have been teaching for a total of 25 years. I spent the majority of my career in middle school. During these wonderful years, I taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies. After 22 years, I decided that it was time for a change, so I made the move to high school. For the past three years, I have taught high school English, and I love it! I currently teach 10th Grade World Literature and 11th Grade American Literature. I also served as the Model United Nations adviser for 14 years, and have coached basketball and soccer.
My teaching style is definitely based on getting the attention of my students. If you want kids to learn you have to get them excited about the material. Now, I know that not everything can be fun, but if you can find a way to hook your students with the fun stuff, they will continue to be engaged when the material is a little, shall we say, "boring"!
I was the 2007 teacher of the year at my school. While teaching middle school, I served as our school's English Language Arts Department Head.
I graduated in 1996 from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education and in 2016 with a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I also have a Teacher Support Specialist endorsement and the Gifted Endorsement. In 2018, I became certified in secondary English. In 2020, I graduated from Thomas University with an Education Specialist degree in Teacher Leadership.
I have two amazing children. My son Justin is 25. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2020 with a degree in Logistics and Marketing. He is married with a baby on the way. My daughter Hilarie is 19 and is attending East Georgia State College on a softball scholarship. She will be following in her mother's footsteps as she studies to become a teacher!
