TEACHING EXPERIENCE

-14 years and counting: Middle School English Language Arts Teacher (I have taught 6, 7, 8) -10 years and counting: Middle School Literacy Coach (5-8 building)

MY TEACHING STYLE

Student engagement and learning, while maintaining high academic standards, is my number one goal. I use a daily teaching framework which incorporates Word Study, Interactive Read Aloud, Reading Minilesson/Writing Minilesson, and Independent Reading/Writing time. I also try to incorporate one-one-one student conferences or small group instruction such as literature circles daily. With limited time in our daily literacy block, I have found alternating between reading units and writing units to be a great balance and way to manage it all.

I live in Wisconsin with my husband, two sons, dog, and cat. My favorite things include a hot cup of coffee, decluttering/organizing anything I can get my hands on, a sweaty workout or run, and snuggles from my boys (this includes the dog and cat along with the humans).
