I began my teaching career in second grade where I taught for 6 years. Afterward, I taught EIP mathematics for third grade part time and gifted 1st and 2nd Grade part time. Currently, I teach students who have been identified as gifted in a pull out program from first to fifth graders and spend some time helping struggling gifted students in their regular ed. classroom.
I know that students learn best from hands on experiences and from each other. I plan my lessons according to this. In my classroom you will see small groups, partnerships, and individuals working sometimes all at the same time. I know that even students who are identified as gifted still have different learning styles and strengths. I try to allow for this differentiation in my teaching.
I was grade level chair in 2nd grade. I was nominated for teacher of the year in 2013-2014 and was a finalist in 2014-2015, I pride myself in my students achievements and feel my honors are reflected in their academic growth each year.
I earned my BSE in Early Childhood Education and my Masters in Reading and Mathematics. I am endorsed in Gifted Education and Instructional Coaching.
I am a mom, sister, daughter and friend! I have a 5 year old daughter who keeps me very busy. I love being outdoors and doing anything active. Right now I am training for my first sprint triathlon with a goal of not drowning and just finishing! I love Georgia, where I live now, but I am a Buckeye at heart since I was raised in Powell, Ohio.
