I was a bilingual classroom teacher (lower elementary) in a bilingual education one-way program and a dual language two way program. I then homeschooled my son during his 2nd-4th grade years. After that I found a wonderful Montessori public school. There I was an assistant guide, I taught Spanish as a world language at beginner and heritage speaker levels, and I was an ESL coordinator as well as a reading interventionist. Most recently I was a Spanish teacher at an International Baccalaureate middle school, where I taught students ranging from 6th grade through 12th. The variety of experiences that I have had have helped me to expand my knowledge as an educator and deepened my knowledge and creativity.
My focus is on independent work and small groups, which is reflected in my curriculum. My materials are easily adaptable to meet the needs of a wide variety of educators. Homeschooling families, adult learners, conventional schools, and alternative educational settings can all benefit from the things I am sharing in this store. IMPORTANT: My work does not contain "vosotros" as I teach Latin American Spanish.
Maintained a 4.0 average throughout my graduate studies.
I have a Master's of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a Concentration in Bilingual Education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Communication Arts. I am currently certified to teach Spanish and ESL.
Being bilingual and bicultural is central to who I am as a person and as a professional. My husband, who is from Mexico, and I are raising our son to be bilingual and bicultural, as well. By opening up my mind and heart at an early age to other cultures, I was able to gain a better understanding of the world, and, on a practical level, was able to find work rather easily because of my Spanish-speaking abilities. I have made it my mission as an educator to offer that same opportunity to others.
