5-Session Short Story Writing Guide
This worksheet breaks down the 5 steps of the writing process to help students write a short fictional story. I found that having the writing process as a checklist seemed to help students organize the task, and kept them from rushing through (like they did the first time I tried to have them write a short story). Inside the Pyramid- Creative Writing
This rubric includes directions, a scoring system, and a story starter for students to create a story of historical fiction. The story starter can be used to generate ideas. I have also had students create a story board on the back of the paper. I have also differentiated this assignment by allowing students to create a graphic novel instead of a traditional story. This can be done in class, or outside of class.
