Campaign Slogan Project and Rubric - The Kid Who Ran for President
This project can be used for both ELA and Social Studies. I originally created it to go with the book, The Kid Who Ran for President. During this project, students will pretend that they are running for President and create their own campaign slogans. Student directions and a rubric are included.

This PowerPoint slide presentation on voter suppression has 8 slides. There are facts about the people who were involved with voting rights. After the facts are presented, there are questions that should be discussed with the class. There are group student activities that will be graded. A home research project task that fits nicely in with the teaching of Australia as a Nation (History - NSW Curriculum outcomes and indicators). Students to research a significant individual who played a key role in Australian democracy. Comes with instructions for the task and a comprehensive marking rubric with 1, 2 and 3 star criteria.

Current Events: News Reporter
Add Current Events into your daily routine. Set up a class calendar and assign a daily news reporter. Students use the planner and write or record a news video for the class. There is also a student self-evaluation rubric for grading. My class looks forward to the daily reports. We do ours right after the morning announcements. Takes 4-7 minutes to share and discuss. Activity can be adapted to suit any grade.

The 1932 Election with Hey Arnold!
Present the big election of 1932 through the context of Nickelodeon's Hey Arnold! Students will be filling out graphic organizer describing the characters Mr. Simmons and Mr. Wartz, then draw comparisons to the historical figures Hoover and Roosevelt.
