I'm in my tenth year of teaching 4th grade. I've always had a passion for 4th grade ever since my 4th grade year! Most of my teaching experience has occurred with 100% military children. My father was is in the Army so I feel like I really relate with the lifestyle of my students. It can be difficult for both students and teachers but somehow, we make it work!
I'm a big fan of student engagement, movement, and technology! Many of my lesson incorporate kid-friendly video clips acquired through a variety of sources like YouTube, BrainPop, Google, etc. I also love using music to get students moving around the room and PowerPoint reviews to help students retain what they've learned.
I received many teacher scholarships while in college.
I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in May 2007 with a Bachelors in Sociology and Master's Degree in Elementary Education. All of my teaching experience has occurred in Virginia public schools. My first two years, I was self-contained and taught all subjects. Starting three years ago, my team became departmentalized and I teach the entire 4th grade Virginia Studies and Science. Because of this arrangement, it's allowed me to really concentrate my time and efforts to perfecting my lessons and materials for these two subjects. More recently, my team has become self-contained so I've ventured out with reading resources. I hope you find my resources helpful!
Thanks for stopping by! :-)
