TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am an educator with experience teaching English Language Arts in grades 9-12, including ELD, reading intervention, co-op special education, and AP Language and Composition classes. I currently work as a gifted and talented consultant supporting multiple schools. I am constantly seeking ways to improve my practice so that all levels of students receive the best possible education.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in innovation, creativity, and passion; as educators, much of what we do depends on what we prioritize in our classrooms. I try to balance Constructivist approaches with college preparation, philosophy, and social justice so that students are prepared for testing, college, and career while considering the moral and social implications of all that they do.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Colorado Academy of Educators for the Gifted, Talented, and Creative 2023 Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented presenter, 2022 National Association for Gifted and Talented Global Awareness Network Chair, 2021-2022 Summer Camp Keynote Speaker, 2012 and 2013 Technology Grant Recipient: class laptops and Promethean board National Society of Collegiate Scholars, 2006-present University of Northern Colorado College of Humanities and Social Sciences Award of Excellence, 2008 University of Northern Colorado Honors Program Award of Excellence, 2008

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I'm a doctoral student working on a degree in Educational Leadership and Gifted and Talented Director licensure. I earned my BA in English in 2009 and my MA in Gifted and Talented Education in 2017. After my student teaching, I began teaching in an urban school district in the Denver area after working as a substitute. I have completed graduate work in teaching English Language Learners.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

When I'm not in the classroom, I love spending time with my family and animals. We homestead, hike, camp, fish, ski, and generally soak in the great outdoors.
