I served as a Science Teacher responsible for leading, teaching and mentoring students on the importance of building a scientific background in order to prepare students for future scientific professions. This included planning lessons that target specific skills and concepts, managing classroom behavior to keep all students engaged in the lesson and providing individual support and feedback for students. I was also a Teacher Mentor to help foster new teachers become responsible for supervising, educating and supporting students to help them accomplish learning benchmarks. In my 15 years I was responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting of key curriculum metrics to leadership and community, developing and implementing educational plans for students with special needs, designing, writing, and presenting a new curriculum for my county, organizing, developing, and leading Professional Development for teachers, support staff, and administrators at the county level. I also developed a remote learning curriculum in response to the COVID-19 pandemic ensuring the continual science education for students i did serve as Science Department Chair, mentoring and leading other teachers to be successful and to help master their craft; established clear instructional goals, identifying proficiency levels, and helping develop instruments to monitor student progress.; assisted in the selection and assignment of materials of instruction and texts for the department; maintained an inventory of departmental books, supplies, equipment including disposal of old or retired materials and met regularly with other department leaders to assist the principal in the development and evaluation of school objectives and to discuss department and school concerns, and school improvement. I ran numerous clubs and activities over the years, from Science clubs like MESA ( Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Achievement) club, Environmental club, to others like Ballet Club and Watercolor Club!
I taught using an inquiry-based approach with follow up questions later. I think it's important to have buy-in and engagement from the kids for them to learn.
