ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a mother of a daughter with ADHD and a son who has Autism and we have experienced many hurdles and hard times over the years. The bullying my son experienced, when he was in primary school was next level and extremely traumatic for our whole family. This led to a massive deterioration of his mental health which was one of the hardest things I have ever endured and I hope no one experiences what we did - not ever! On a professional level, I am a teacher of 18 years and have worked with many children who were diagnosed with ADHD & Autism and some who were not diagnosed but displayed many signs of both. I love being a teacher and quickly realised my experience as a mother of neurodiverse children gave me a special ability to quickly connect with these children and to recognise their needs enabling me to better support them in the classrooms. I was lucky enough to also present to staff to pass on my knowledge, skills, hints and strategies from my lived experiences. I have a passion for ADHD & Autism Awareness, education and support. Sharing what I have learnt over the last 18 years from teaching and from a mothers point of view - the knowledge and the strategies - so we are all Autism Aware and people with Autism are set up for success in everything they do, whether it is at school, playing sports, being a part of the community or in employment. My daughter is in year 11 and my son is now at university, not without challenges and hurdles that we still have to manage, but I could not be prouder. I believe that everyone should be able to thrive in life, regardless of any condition they may have, with the correct support, tools and knowledge. Together, we can support and empower people with ADHD and Autism so they can shine and succeed.
