We are an LGBT couple from the suburbs of Atlanta. We met on the job and Melodi was Sarah's mentor- it was all history from there! While we both started out as active owners/authors of Strankles Science, the majority of the store's products were and are created by Sarah. But Melodi was her mentor so that probably counts for something! We have both taught middle school life science and earth science, which is what our store is based on. Melodi also has experience teaching elementary school. We have a collective 24 years of teaching experience between the two of us, and we have both recently left the classroom to pursue new (work from home) careers in corporate learning and development. We don't miss the stress of the classroom, but Strankles Science allows us a creative outlet involving K-12 science where we can stay involved in the education world even in a less direct way.
One word: FUN! We strive to create learning environments where students feel like family and the activities that they participate in make them realize that there is a much bigger world outside of the science classroom. Real-world phenomena is at the heart of everything we do, and it makes students look forward to our class everyday. Nobody ever has to ask "Why do we need to know this?" because that question is answered every single day in the way that we teach science!
Yet to be added
We hold five education degrees between the two of us. Most recently, we have attained our master's and specialist degrees (respectively) in instructional technology. Sarah also has an endorsement in online teaching.
