I have worked as a middle school math teacher for 7 years, but began as a middle school English teacher. This has allowed me to see the importance of incorporating writing and reading strategies into my math classroom. I love my job and couldn't think of doing anything else! Prior to teaching, I began my career as an AVID tutor. Then after receiving my credentials, I worked as both an AVID elective teacher and an AVID facilitator. Most recently, I worked at a State University teaching summer school to incoming freshman who had lower level math skills. Thus, I have a range in my experiences.
Like most teachers, I began my education career embracing a traditional teaching style. However, as time has passed, I have learned to embrace a more cooperative learning environment. I will admit that this hasn't been easy since I have been afraid of losing control. Yet, with the proper structure and classroom management skills, I am learning the necessary balance!
Yet to be added
I have a bachelors in Psychology, a Masters in Secondary Education, and a masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I have also been trained to be an AVID facilitator and have facilitated AVID workshops.
I am a wife and mother to a beautiful four year old named Sophia!
