This is my 14th year as a middle school/high school Social Studies and AVID/Leadership teacher. I love teaching and am passionate about developing meaningful, authentic, and relevant curriculum for my students. My student population is as diverse as they come; I am committed to embedding cultural based practices such as the decolonization of pedagogy into my daily practice. I believe that our students deserve the opportunity to practice and hone the valuable 21st century skills that they will need in the future. You can find these embedded within each of my lessons, activities, and projects. Professionally, I have earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction! I've taught in three different states as well as in a variety of educational settings: charter, public, and private.
Constructivist! You'll observe that most of my lessons, assignments, and projects are centered upon student inquiry rather than direct instruction from the teacher. All are designed with authenticity and relevance in mind. I want students to USE their knowledge to create something, solve a problem, etc.
Do teachers ever get formal "awards"? These are not common despite the amazing work I have seen my colleagues do for years!
