I have 10 years+ of experience in special education K-5. Knowledgeable in using iPad as an educational tool, ABA principals, BIPs, life skills, centers, modifying grade level work to the individual needs of students. A mother and believer that a child's first teachers are their parents or guardians.
Believer in the Zone of Proximal Development. Every student has a potential to develop past what is expected of them or what they expect of themselves; providing the appropriate assistance will give the student enough of a "boost" to achieve the task. Not all students learn the same; which can be frustrating for both the student and the teacher. Teaching one topic in a variety of ways is useful in controlling students' level of frustration, thus remaining open to receiving information from their teacher. I am an advocate of Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences: musical, visual-spatial, linguistic, logical-mathematical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic and proposed additional intelligences. My teaching style is a combination of cooperative learning, peer or teacher scaffolding, differentiated instruction, and repetition.
