I began teaching in the Montessori school system for Prek - 1st grades for 4 years. I chose to make the move into the public education system (K-1, and 4,6) to bring hands-on, student-directed education into the "regular" classroom and worked in low socio-economic school for four years showing tremendous growth at every grade level. When I found the Aspire Public School system I knew I had found the perfect "every student learns" education system. I have taught 4th and 5th grades (looping) at Vincent Shalvey Academy for 6 years now, and plan to be there for many, many years to come!

Teaching needs to address the needs of each and every child. I place a high value on differentiating student education to ensure each meets the 80% understanding goal we hold for every standard. I believe that education should be fun, involve active learning in many different modes, and should develop student- directed accountability for success.

I was chosen to write Common Core lessons for a National Company for ELA all last year. In addition to this I am part of Aspire Public Schools which was chosen as one of three education systems to manage the Bill Gates Foundation TCRP - Student College Ready Promise and Highly Effective Teachers objectives. Our school is a model school and we have been working very hard for three years to develop into highly effective teachers to consistently improve our teaching practices. We were featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show and news programs and just received an additional grant to continue with our efforts to develop and improve this program. I am also a mentor teacher for teaching residents out of University of Pacific's School of Education. Exciting to be a part of growth and change in education and development of the Teacher and Common Core standards!

I'm married to my highschool sweetheart, Joe, going on 24 years strong! We have two daughters, Brooke and Halle, who attend CSU Fresno and play softball for the college. Our son, TJ, is a senior at Lodi High School and is excited about playing football next year for a college to be determined:) We also have two new puppy sisters, Brody and Jenna, who are black-nose curs and cute and loving as can be. I love teaching, am excited about the improvements and direction it is taking and plan to do it for another 20 years!
