A great piece of literature does not try to coerce you. ... A great piece of literature simply is. (Madeleine L'Engle)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught a variety of courses (including Spanish, ELA, writing, American History, and American Government) at homeschool co-ops. I currently homeschool my two children. I blog about homeschooling, teaching, and learning at Line Upon Line Learning. Sometimes I offer samples of my products for free on that site. You can also find Line Upon Line Learning at Facebook. My passions are classic literature (especially Victorian literature), photography, and design. I am a voracious reader and have kept a books blog about classics, nonfiction, and children's literature at Rebecca Reads since 2008.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Eclectic. I teach according to my children's needs for learning. Homeschooling should be fun and effective. I rely a lot on teaching with great picture books. I love to incorporate hands-on activities and games with both my one-on-one teaching and in my classes.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My books blog was recognized by the blogging community as one of the top three Classics Books Blogs. I have twice been selected as a first-round panelist for fiction picture books for the CYBILS awards (Children's and Young Adult Bloggers' Literary Awards). For this, I was able to read and review the nominated picture books in a three month period (more than 200 picture books each year) and then discuss with a committee which of the books should be one of the 7 finalists for the award.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a Bachelor's Degree in English, with a focus in Editing, and a minor in International Studies.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I've spent time in Jerusalem (two months), South America (Boliva for three months), and Australia (16 months), and I currently reside in the Chicagoland area.
