I have been teaching since 2006. I have taught in a variety of schools from private parochial schools to rural and urban public schools. My experience is mostly focused in the area of Social Studies with team teaching experience in a combined ELL/Social Studies course. I have instructed in the following Social Studies areas: U.S. History, AP U.S. History, Human Geography, Physical Geography, Economics, American Government, Sociology, Psychology, American Studies and Middle School (Geography, U.S. History and Advanced 8th grade U.S. History).
My teaching style is very much bell to bell - in that I understand that I cannot control outside factors, but can control what happens from the moment my class starts to the moment my class ends. I have incorporated elements of standards based grading, common core, SIOP model and others as students and their needs change from year to year. I believe that practice work should not be punished (academically), and that mastery is truly what we are working towards in education. I focus on quick checkpoints throughout my daily instruction, questioning strategies and am cognizant that my assessments truly measure what standard or unit I am teaching. I am a teacher who attends in and out of state workshops, am constantly reading latest research in education and serve on a number of educational committees in and out of my building/district.
Most recently, I was awarded a national flash funding from the donorschoose.org web-based teacher funding program, to complete my project listing on improving technology in the classroom.
I have an undergraduate degree in political science and a master's degree in education. I am currently licensed to teach in two states.
I am committed to the field of education in piloting programs, hosting university students and connecting the community to my classroom in anyway possible. I have a passion for teaching and learning and look forward to sharing some of my work with you.
