2022-2023 marks my 12th year teaching and I cannot believe it went by so quickly. Over the course of those 12 years, I've taught everything between 8th grade U.S history to 12th grade Government and Economics, including varying levels (college prep, honors, AP). Throughout those 11 years, 10th grade World History has been a staple...pretty sure I've been doing it for 9 years? I don't even remember anymore! This year I have transitioned to building our new Ethnic Studies 9 course with two wonderful educators.
Within the last five years, my classroom has become mostly student-centered. We work in collaborative pods to support learning. We prioritize working on critical thinking and historical literacy skills over content. It is much more realistic for real world application. Additionally, I love bringing in contemporary issues like Amazon, BLM, CRT, etc.

One of the things that I am most proud about in my career is building and implementing a Gender Studies course for juniors and seniors at my current high school. In 2022-2023, I built and implemented our Ethnic Studies 9 program. My dog is my favorite friend - his name is Mortimer Pablo, he is 15, and been rocking life on 3 legs!
