TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a teacher for 18 years and I love it! I specialise in History with experience of English, Geography, Religious Studies and Humanities. Having been a Head of Department, an advanced lead teacher in Humanities, a deputy head in a SEMH school and good old classroom based history teacher I enjoy supporting students and staff alike. I like all things history and personalise my students historical studies. So I LOVE Local History! (Maybe its because I'm nosey?) Here's an article I had published in national journal TEACHING HISTORY on my Local History project. http://www.history.org.uk/resources/secondary_resource_6498.html It might give you taste of how I like to teach...

MY TEACHING STYLE

All sorts. Whatever works for the students in front of me. From interactive and independent group work to discussion and lecture. Either way I want the students to be working harder than their teacher. :0)

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

WINNER: Jamie Oliver and YouTube's Dream Teacher in History 2011. http://mshughesteaches.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/stalins-rise-to-power.html http://www.agent4change.net/events/competition/894

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I aim to create engaging, interesting and challenging lessons for my students. I am a firm believer that a real education should develop young people holistically and lead them to independence and help them on the path to a productive and happy life. If you want to get information and freebies first you can follow me on facebook and instagram. For myself I love gardening (weather permitting) and reading (when my marking lets me!) as well as getting crafty on the sewing machine. Next stop, camper van curtains!
