TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am in my eleventh year of teaching. In those years, I have taught music to children of all ages, from preschool through high school, and even adults. I have taught classroom music and private lessons. I have taught in rural, urban, and suburban areas. I have worked with students from privileged and underprivileged backgrounds, gifted students, "normal" students, and students with special needs. My concentration is elementary classroom music and children's choir.

I have earned a Master's degree in music education with an emphasis in choral conducting. My main career goal is to share my passion, music, with others. If my students walk away with a love of music, then I have done my job!

MY TEACHING STYLE

When teaching, my focus is always on the child. I care deeply about the human dignity of each child and his or her right to feel cared for, safe, and comfortable in my classroom. Second, I want my students to be happy because they have found something to enjoy. Third, I hope that they are using authentic music skills.

I accomplish the first goal by speaking to children with respectful language, knowing that my words and tone set an example of how adults should speak and how I expect to be spoken to. I accomplish my second goal by designing lessons that are fun and encourage full engagement. I meet my third goal by structuring lessons that use and enhance authentic musical skills.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have earned the following grants: Target Arts and Culture in Schools Grant, Education Minnesota Foundation Classroom Technology Grant, Venture Fund Grant.

I have earned the following awards: University of St. Thomas New Student Fellowship, Educational Testing Service Praxis II Certificate of Excellence, Hamre Award for Music Advocacy (two-time winner).

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Master of Arts in Music Education, Choral concentration, University of St. Thomas 2014.

Bachelor of Music in Music Education, St. Norbert College 2006.

High School Diploma 2002.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love my job and love to use technology to enhance lessons in a way that adds a level of engagement, never subtracting from the musical learning that my students are already doing. Thank you for visiting and please leave a comment if you download any products so I may continue to improve my offerings!

I would love to hear from you: MrsMartinsMusicRoom@gmail.com
