I taught fifth grade for six years before "retiring" into stay-at-home mom life/being a preschool aide. When I post new resources now, it is the fruit of going back through my old files and making them as amazing as possible to create products I know will help teachers who are in a position I was not all that long ago. I taught 5th grade-all subjects for 2 years in Gwinnett County before moving my career to Barrow County. For the past three years, I have taught different combinations of ELA, math, science, and social studies through team teaching. For my last year, I taught everything but math! I have had many other experiences with children, including: volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club of Athens, working for an After-School Program in Clarke County, teaching painting & drawing at a Gwinnett County summer camp, and working for an elementary daycare in the summer.
I try to incorporate technology into my classroom as much as possible and am fortunate enough to have 1:1 devices to students ratio in my classroom. I also believe whole-heartedly in inquiry-based and project-based learning! I utilize as much small-group instruction as possible in my instruction. This allows for differentiation, develops self-motivated students, and facilitates cooperation/team-work in the classroom. I have taught almost exclusively small-group for literacy and math and am looking look for ways to extend this into science and social studies as well. I believe in teaching through literature, which is why I try to structure as many lessons as I can around students having a variety of texts in their hands. I also believe in students writing to deepen their understanding of all content, including math.
