TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This 2021-2022 school year will mark my 13th year of teaching! I taught first grade at a Title I, bilingual campus. Then I taught 2nd grade and helped launch our school's STEM program. After 7 years in the classroom, I took on the role as ESL District Coordinator and Dyslexia Specialist. During this time, I felt God nudging me to focus my talents on students with reading disabilities. I recently completed a two year, comprehensive Orton-Gillingham training, and I will officially be a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) by August 2021.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Low performing students or students with identified learning disabilities must receive systematic and explicit instruction. My teaching style also incorporates a variety of multisensory instructional elements. One thing that makes my approach unique is how I incorporate metacognition into my lessons. It's important to teach students how to learn and store new learning in long-term memory.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from Austin College with a bachelor’s degree (majoring in Psychology and a minor in Spanish), and a Masters degree in Education. I completed a 2 year, comprehensive Orton-Gillingham training at Literacy Education and Academic Development (LEAD) in Dallas, TX. I will be a Certified Academic Language Therapist and a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist by August 2021!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love spending time with my three daughters! We enjoy playing board games, kicking the soccer ball, gardening, making art projects, and cuddling on the couch to watch movies. My husband and I love a good Pinterest project, day dates, and dreaming about the future. When I'm not spending time with my family, I continue to find ways to help students read and write. I am passionate about supporting struggling readers, their parents, and educators!
