I have taught middle school ELAR for 15 years with the exception of a quick hop over to upper elementary for two years to stretch my legs. In my heart, though, I'm a middle school teacher. Spending my days with them is my favorite place to be aside from hanging out with my family or diving headfirst into a book.
I believe that creating an environment conducive to learning is important. I love when I hear students, their parents, and other staff comment on how much they love the atmosphere of my room. I believe that each child's experiences matter, and I want my teaching to be as relevant as possible. I believe in smiling before Christmas and that learning is hard work--but that doesn't mean it can't be fun and exciting. I believe in letting the kids take the wheel when possible, and I'll happily create something new before doing the 'same old, same old' year after year.
-Teacher of the Year Nominee (2013) -Teacher of the Year Nominee (2019) -Twitter Chat Moderator for my district's summer book chats. I selected current, relevant YA, and ran a twitter chat over the course of the summer (2019, 2020)
Teaching has been my life's ambition since I was very young and a dream fulfilled. I worked in daycares and summer programs during high school and graduated from Texas A&M University in 2006 with my B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Born and raised in Texas, I love Dr. Pepper, Whataburger, and Chickfila. I love reading young adult books and read as often as I can. I am a huge advocate for audiobooks! I have always loved the art of creating--whether it's art, music, crafts, or classroom resources.
