TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began in education as an ENL teacher for 3 years and a grade-level Interventionist for 3 years. I currently hold the position of Literacy Coach where I serve over 30 teachers in K-6 buildings with a focus in reading instruction. I have my Masters in Technology and Informatics, so I strive to collaborate with teachers on ways we can incorporate technology to promote rigor and engagement in the classroom.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I think most would describe my teaching style as flexible and fun. I work hard to plan lessons and experiences for students that will be so engaging, we forget we're learning! I believe that with the right presentation, you can get students excited to learn and practice any concept. Hands-on materials and music/chants are my go-to hooks.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been the recipient of several grants (iPods for listening centers, books for classroom library, materials for Family Literacy Night) and was awarded an Above and Beyond award from my school during my 5th year of teaching.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees at IUPUI. Along with a Bachelors in Elementary Education, I have completed ENL and Reading Specialist certification. My Masters in Elementary Education degree is combined with my Technology and Informatics Masters. I currently teach in the school corporation where I graduated high school!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I live with my elementary school-aged son in my hometown in Indiana. I like to test my lesson ideas out on him :-)
