I worked as an Instructional Assistant with Special Education students for 15 years before becoming a Special Education teacher. I have also created, illustrated, and published eight color-by-number coloring books for a well know company. Currently, I am a mother, an artist, and a very passionate teacher with a master's degree in curriculum and instruction.
I am a creative teacher who likes to come up with ways to keep my students highly engaged in classroom activities. I understand that many students with learning challenges are not intrinsically motivated to do well in school. Therefore, I feel that it is important to teach them in ways that they will feel successful.
I was chosen by my college to represent my school as a hard working, and highly driven student. I am a member of the National Arts Honor Society. My coloring books are award winning, and sold both nationally, and world wide.
I graduated from High School in 1997. After becoming an Instructional Assistant, I attended night school at a local community college while working during the day as an Instructional Assistant and publishing several coloring books as well. I graduated my first university college in 2012 with a BA in Human Development, and a Special Education (Mild/Moderate) teaching credential. I finished my master's degree at a second university in 2022, earning a degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
I did not have an easy childhood or a love of education growing up. I was the oldest of 5 children with an explosive father who moved us often (22 times by the time I was 19 years old). I had learning challenges in school, and was placed in Special Education Resource classes for difficulty with my auditory processing skills, and short term memory. In my academic classes, I would sit and daydream with boredom while my teachers droned on about subjects that I did not really understand in the way they taught me. I was a gifted artist however, and each school I attended, I found that I was one of the best, even though I struggled with every other subject. When I became an Instructional Assistant, I found my calling; using my creative skills to help students learn and feel successful in school. It took me quite a few years to realize that I was talented beyond drawing and painting pictures. I understood the struggles that the students I worked with faced. Today, I am a passionate Special Education teacher who enjoys creating resources to help other teachers find ways to engage their students. Today, I love working as a Special Education teacher, and I am happy to share my first hand knowledge about how to support struggling students, and how to add a bit of creative fun to your classroom! My goal is to keep my products low cost to help both teachers and students with the products that I LOVE to create! I hope they are helpful and enjoyable!!
