TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Art Teacher in Los Angeles, CA Social-Emotional Learning Facilitator Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis on Graphic Design

MY TEACHING STYLE

Encouraging guided practice allows my middle school students to construct original works of art giving them a sense of mastery at a critical age. My art class provides structured self-expression so that in time, students will have the disposition and vernacular to be resilient, have grit and strive during tough challenges. The practice and production of art is an effective tool inclusive of all ages to develop the skills needed to succeed. My mission is to develop a student's cognitive, social and behavioral skills such as attention to detail, creative problem solving, critical thinking, understanding of oneself/culture/others, emotional regulation, and self-efficacy but most importantly the confidence to create something great. Many of these products are differentiated and scaffold for all levels of learning; challenge advanced artists to push themselves while teaching core concepts to all skill-levels.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Certified in Social-Emotional Art Techniques through UCLA Health. Fort Lewis College Academic Achievement in Mathematics 52nd Annual FLC Juried Art Exhibition

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a BA in Arts with an emphasis on graphic design. I left my job as an in-house designer to become a teacher. I have been teaching in East LA for almost 5 years. My practice is rooted in evidence-based, social-emotional skill-building through art technique and practice. Developed by the UCLArts program, integrated with my design, and adjusted for the Middle School mind.
