I have been a teacher since 2010 with the majority of my career spent teaching Grades 3 & 4 in the public school system in British Columbia, Canada. I also have experience teaching in the private and homeschool settings across the Elementary grades. Currently, I am the Lead Educator for Joyful Learning - a non-profit organization that creates affordable and engaging community connected learning experiences and resources.
I am passionate about experiential, hands-on learning, with special emphasis on place-based and community connected experiences. Adapting to diverse student needs and providing accessible resources is also at the core of what I do. I believe that what we teach should spark joy, wonder and a love of learning and I aim to do just that!
Through the creation of Joyful Learning, I have been formally recognized for the events and resources I've developed. I am very grateful to be able to do this and see the positive impact it is having on my community and learners. Some recognitions include: - Langley Advance Times Newspaper Article (May 2020) - Langley Education Hero (December 2020) - Langley Covid Hero (April 2021)
I completed my Bachelor of Arts in 2008, and my Bachelor of Education in 2010. I concentrated in Social Studies and minored in Spanish and Elementary Education. Currently, I am working toward completing my Master's in Education with a focus on Place and Nature-Based, Experiential Education.
