TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching middle school for eleven years. I taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for seven years. During that time I taught sixth grade English, history, reading intervention, and Yearbook. Next, I taught seventh grade English in La Puente, CA. I now teach 8th grade reading and communication arts in Joplin, MO.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to use technology to engage students. Many of my units include computer-based assignments-but don't worry...there's plenty in there for you old-school types! :) I like to give clear directions, scaffolded practice, and multiple opportunities to learn and show evidence of learning. Many of my students are EL's, and many others are not at grade-level. However, that doesn't mean I skip rigor and critical thinking!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

*National Board Certified Teacher: Early Adolescent English Language Arts-2011 *PTA Teacher of the Year Award: 2014 *Yearbook Coverage Award 2011: given for quality coverage of the year's events, including visual and written content.
