TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've taught all grades 6-12 and major subjects (science, math, reading, language arts, and social studies). However, my bread-and-butter tends to lend itself to creative grades 5-9 social studies lessons and improving writing skills.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is a mixed bag of tricks, but it's always student-centered. I tend to focus on reading (RICA) in social studies, but also employ plenty of kinesthetic learning, interactive presentations (not your standard old-school lectures), Reader's Theater plays that I've written, dress-up parties, research, primary sources - you get the idea.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Scholastic Art and Writing Gold Teacher Award (2x), NEA Leadership Award (2016), Pennsylvania's National History Day Teacher of the Year (2016), NEA Teacher of Excellence Award recipient (2017), and more travel scholarships than I can count.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I always loved school, so I pursued the career almost from the get-go. I proudly display my state-school undergrad degrees in secondary education, history, and political science next to my M.Ed. in educational leadership. Ph.D. should soon be on the horizion.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My articles have appeared in The Washington Post, The Guardian, and several other periodicals, but I primarily write for The Educator's Room (since 2012). I will take my show on the road when TER opens its consulting wing in 2017.
