I have experience teaching 8th grade literature, 11th grade AP Lang/ Comp, 10th grade English, and Speech I at both public and private schools.
John Dewey said education is "the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world." My goal as a teacher is to encourage and facilitate this practice in the next generation of students. In my classroom, students utilize their unique talents and learning styles to become better thinkers, empathizers, and problem solvers, engaged in the critical and creative transformation of the world.
The greatest honor I ever achieved was when, in fourth grade, my poem about astronaut John Glenn was included in a young writers anthology. Let's see if I can remember it... "John Glenn you fly so high. / In the sky like a fly. / You're so high in the sky. / Come back soon." That's not exactly it, but it was about as earth-shattering as that. I understand if you need a moment.
