I received my multiple subjects teaching credential in 1987 and have been teaching grades K-6 in a variety of districts in California. As an instructor/presenter for Math Their Way/Math...A Way of Thinking and Prime Presentations, I have worked with teachers and administrators all over the United States helping them integrate hands-on math into their curriculum. I have presented at numerous NCTM National conferences. I designed two elementary algebra workshops titled: Algebraic Thinking is Elementary: Generate Algebra Power in Your Students Right from the Very Start for grades K-2 and Inspire Intermediate Students to Soar: Connect Algebraic Concepts Across the Mathematics Curriculum for grades 3-5. I recently created Nifty Numbers, Math Medley and Gellin' with Geometry Family Math Night kits as a way to build positive family-school partnerships. The kits make it super easy to host a Family Math Night event. I also have a great Resources section devoted to hosting Family Math Night events filled with lots of great ideas on organization, set-up, activities, etc. Feel free to check it out at: www.familymathnight.com.
My teaching background is in the elementary grades, with an emphasis on hands-on math. It is my passion to help kids "see" math concepts and make connections between what they are learning in class and what happens outside of class. My favorite way of teaching is through hands-on projects (project-based learning).
