We are veteran teachers and curriculum specialists who have worked with gifted children throughout our careers in Denver Public Schools. We first developed independent projects for use with our own students and to support classroom teachers. Aware of the challenges classroom teachers face in differentiating for their most able students, we wanted to make them available for wider use.
We believe that students learn best when they have an interest in the topic, lots of choice about how they learn and a chance to use their creativity. These independent projects allow students dig more deeply into an interesting topic tied to national content standards.
