TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently a Deaf & Hard of Hearing Teacher in a self-contained total-communication setting serving students grades 2-5. Previously, I was a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Itinerant Teacher for four years serving preschool to 12th grade. I have worked as a teacher's assistant in an early childhood Deaf/Hard of Hearing classroom for one year, and I have worked as a graduate research assistant where I helped develop a literacy curriculum for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students for 2 years. This is currently my 5th year working as a Deaf & Hard of Hearing Teacher.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My classroom is a total communication model which means my students use different communication modalities. Some of my students use American Sign Language, some use listening and spoken language, and some use a combination of both. My classroom also has a large age range, my youngest students are age 7 and my oldest age 11. Similar to my experience as an itinerant teacher, I served students of various ages, ranging degrees of hearing loss, different amplification devices, varying educational placements, and different communication modalities. I make sure to differentiate instruction to match each student's needs. My goal is to make my materials fun, engaging, and easy to adapt for different students' goals and needs!
