TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My most recent experience is facilitating an early numearcy intervention program for kindergarten and grade 1 students. I work with students who are struggling with their math skills or could use additional help. I have taught high school English Language Arts and EAL/ESL (English as an additional language/English as a second language). I have taught enriched and advanced English, sheltered content English, and mainstream/regular English. The EAL program I worked in focused on literacy and language skills. I taught a science-based literacy course in addition to stages 3 through 5 English language learners. Additionally, I have been involved in a variety of extracurriculars. Most notably I have helped with Youth Revolution (which focuses on preventing dangerous behaviours in teens), Student Council, and Heritage Days (our school's own 2-day cultural event).

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that education should be focused on the whole child. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment for my students that fosters learning while having fun. I continually seek out new and different techniques to engage students in authentic learning.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have provided presentations on engaging students in the classroom, how to get the job, and what to do once you have the job to university students in education. I have also delivered a workshop to 200 students in leadership or Student Council from my area on how to be a positive leader in their schools.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from the University of Winnipeg 5 year integrated program. I gained experience working with a reading resource teacher, a resource teacher, grades 2 and 2/3, grade 6, and grades 9 through 12. I worked with at-risk students, gifted students, and everything in between. I primarily taught reading, Social Studies, Geography, and English.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love teaching and hope that the resources I provide will help you in the classroom too!
